| The Rockhampton Model Aero Club was
officially inaugurated on Friday the 06/12/1947. However, the
history of our club can be traced back to winter 1936 and to Don
J. Millroy, essentially the clubs first member. The clubs history
has been expertly compiled by club stalwart Hubert de Chastel and
is supported by Newspaper articles and Photographs. This
publication, which not only documents our clubs history, also
provides a window into the past history of our district and can be
obtained from Hubert. In the past the club utilised several
flying fields. However, in 1978 the organisation procured land on
River Road and established our permanent home "Gavial
Creek". Our club compound includes a large toilet block,
barbeque area and covered pit area complete with transmitter pound
and frequency control board. Flying facilities include, main and
cross strips, pylon strip and a control line circle.
Flying facilities are used by our members
throughout the year and provide a safe flying venue recognised by
our State and National Associations and the Civil Aviation Safety
Authority of Australia. The club is fortunate to have skilled Instructors available to provide expert training and
advise for beginners and advanced flyers alike. A club meeting is
held every month and a monthly newsletter is published to keep our
members up to date with the latest club matters.
The club welcomes spectators and
interested members of the public. |
