Tri city rocky 2009

Another successful Heli weekend was held in Rocky again!!

What can I say, leading up to the weekend the weather was perfect but as usual as the guests arrived the wind picked up. That didn’t stop us from having a great weekend. The Heli’s are getting more and more popular with each passing year!

We had 20 pilots and 33 heli’s flying. Pilots traveled from Townsville, Mackay, Emerald, Dalby & the Gold Coast just to be there.

Some awesome flying was had by many but a few had unlucky crash’s too.. (but that’s flying)

A number of people achieved their bronze wings (congratulations to them all)

Thank you to Bert & Richard for all their help organisng & catering the event. A big thank you to Laurie who was out there from dust to dawn and everyone else who helped out with supplies, prizes & food.

A BIG THANKS TO RORY AREO MODELLING SUPPLIES FOR HIS SUPPORT, HE DONATED A MODEL HELI AS A RAFFLE WHICH WAS WON BY our local and up and coming Justin!

Novice Winner, Lindsay Moore (4 Entries)
Ten Pin Winner, Greg Hivers (5 Entries)
Drag Racing Winner, Peter Reid (4 I think).

Competitors were from RMAC, MADRAMS, TRACS, SARINA, QRCHA & HMFC.

Peter Reid (long standing heli expert and F3C champ) and
Jeff Blunt (from Newcastle - Raptor/Thunder Tiger/Ace rep and highly ranked 3D pilot).

This was an extremely enjoyable weekend. Well patronised by the visiting modellers and our own club members. There were some great heli's on display both on the ground and in the air. It is astounding to watch the talent of these pilots. There were few bingles and the air was seldom without a heli in it.
The night flying was spectacular.
Considering the bad weather Friday night with gale force wind, driving rain and some hail the campers survived this relatively unscathed. This left us with perfect weather for both Saturday and Sundays events all be it very humid.
A special thanks goes out to all the volunteers especially in the catering area - John Stevens, Mike Boland, Michelle Neil, Linda Reimer, Christine Stock, Caroline Fay and Rory (we missed you Nick).
Thanks to John Huxley and Trevor Martin for the field mowing. Thanks to Rory for the use of the ute. Thanks to Rory and Richard Fay (and me) for contributing to the prizes and trophies.
For those I haven't named thank you very much for you assistance and contribution for without you these events just wouldn't be a success.

Happy Helibatics
Kerry (NitroJunky)
