60th Anniversary Display Day
Gavial Creek Airfield on 29th October
2006.
The Day
The still of the morning lasted only a short while, and then the winds blew, and blew...
Despite having to cancel the Chuckies, Control Line and Old Timer, the remaining planed events went ahead with only 2 minor mishaps.
The Public turned out in good numbers being estimated at anywhere between 200 and 400.
The RFDS was very pleased to report over $500 in gate takings and more than $200 in Stall and Raffle takings.
Nick and Team Welburn did their usual magic effort and fed the hords, selling out of food and most drinks.

The 60th Anniversary
“Those magnificent men and their Model flying machines”
Model Aircraft Air show.
Congratulations to all members involved in our recent air show. The RFDS reported to me that they made over $500 from gate takings, while nick reported a sell-out of all steak burgers and snag rolls and a near on sell-out of soft drinks. As far as actual numbers concerning the general public, it has been estimated that around 450 people passed through the gate during the show.
Unfortunately due to the unpredictable weather conditions we had to cancel some of the planned events, these being the chuckies and control line. We did plan to go ahead with old timer but one had a mishap in the pits while the other did actually get into the air with heavy damage sustained after landing.
A huge thank you goes to the 60th committee for all their help while a special thank you goes to both Rory and Mike for keeping a finger on the pulse of the pits and flight line happenings without you the show would have been utter chaos. Thankyou also to Nick at Team Welburn and all his impromptu staff to keep the thronging crowd happy with food and drinks. Those steak burgers were great. Please keep the good food coming.
Finally a thankyou to all my sponsors. We now have water in the toilet block tank and have seen perhaps the most successful air show in some years. It was 12 months in planning with a lot of grey hair added towards the end. This was my first job as the club’s P.R. Officer and I believe it was a rousing success.
Thankyou to all involved. A great effort.
